The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. William Pease, will take the stage of Old Cabell Hall at 3:30pm on Sunday, November 14th 2010. This ensemble features 45 of the most talented musicians from every school at the University.

The 75th Anniversary Concert will include selections spanning the 75 years since the ensemble’s inception. George Gershwin's 1920s hit, "Strike Up the Band," will kick off the concert with special guest soloist, trumpeter Al Chez from the Late Show with David Letterman. The 1950s will be represented by "Belle of the Ball", a waltz by one of America's greatest wind composers, Leroy Anderson. " Rodgers and Hammmerstein’s "The Sound of Music" and John Williams' "Star Wars" will round out the first half of the concert.

Simone Mantia's "Auld Lang Syne" will feature euphonium soloist Michael Idzior, Associate Director of Bands at the University. The ensemble returns to their Virginia roots with Frank Ticheli's stirring rendition of "Shenandoah".

"A Jefferson Portrait" by Elliott Del Borgo will feature special guest narrator, Teresa Sullivan, the University of Virginia's 8th President.

Guest vocalist Ivan Rutherford from the Broadway show Les Miserables will perform Claude-Michel Schonberg's "Bring Him Home".

The 75th Anniversary celebration will conclude with a modern composer, Robert W. Smith, and his Wright brothers-themed flight sensation, "Twelve Seconds to the Moon."
