Paul Ghun Kim, Guest Conductor
Brendon Elliott, Violin
Program:
BEETHOVEN Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61 (1806) 45’
DVOŘÁK Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95 (1893) 55’
Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Concerto is his one and only concerto for the violin. Considered a giant of the solo violin repertoire, this exceedingly difficult work is deceiving in its deeply felt melodies and sublime serenity. Virginia native Brendon Elliott is the soloist. He is an alumnus of Michael Tilson Thomas’s innovative brainchild, the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida.
One of the most beloved symphonies of all time, Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 (“From the New World”) is his folk-inspired love letter to America.
Paul Ghun Kim, former Oregonian and now Music Director of the Changwon Philharmonic in Korea, is the guest conductor.
