Attacca Percussion Group

The Attacca Percussion Group will be performing at Old Cabell Hall on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 8:00pm. The concert is free and there will be a question and answer session after their performance. Their guest marimba soloist, I-Jen Fang, the U.Va Lecturer of Percussion, will perform Marimba Spiritual by Minoru Miki.

The theme for the concert consist of three players on one marimba. This unique program will include compositions of noted composers Samuel Barber and Alberto Ginastera, arranged by the members of the ensemble, as well as original commissions by composers such as Tina Davidson and Kit Mills. The marimba selections will be interspersed with light-hearted pieces on unusual instruments such as claves, amplified table tops and miniature instruments. A question & answer session will follow the performance to give the audience a chance to meet the ensemble.

The members of Attacca Percussion Group are Adam Green, Scott Pollard and Marc Dinitz. Although based in Washington, D.C., the trio formed at Rice University in Houston, TX. Attacca performs a plethora of musical styles in varying concert settings. This group is very dedicated to engaging younger audiences to percussion music by performing in music schools around the country. They have also lent their talent to benefit others by donating musical services to several charity events for world hunger and drug & alcohol awareness.

I-Jen Fang, the guest artist, has been a faculty member of the U.Va McIntire Department of Music since 2005, and is the Principal Timpanist and Percussionist of the Charlottesville & University Symphony Orchestra. She received her Master of Music degree from Northwestern University and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas. I-Jen has given concerts and recitals in Asia, Europe, South Africa and the United States.

The Attacca Percussion Group is a highly diverse ensemble dedicated to performing in myriad musical styles and concert settings. Audio and video are available on its web site.
