Cavalier Marching Band
The Cavalier Marching Band is a class with four class sections with enrollment based on your year in the CMB: MUBD 2610/Class #10298 (1st year CMB member), MUBD 2620/Class #10299 (2nd year CMB member), MUBD 2630/Class #10300 (3rd year CMB member), MUBD 2640/Class #10301 (4th year CMB member) Meets: Tuesdays and Thursdays (6:00-8:15PM) and Fridays (6:30-8:45pm). Rehearsals are held in the Hunter Smith Band Building and on Carr’s Hill Field.
The Cavalier Marching Band is comprised of over 220 dedicated members. There are no UVA course fees associated with marching band participation, only a passion for representing UVA and for the marching arts. The band is an integral part of the gameday experience in and around Scott Stadium with performances at all home football games, occasional regular-season away games, post-season bowl games, and at additional events on Grounds. Family, friends, and the community are encouraged to attend Friday evening rehearsals.
The band includes feature twirlers, color guard, woodwinds, brass, and battery percussion. Remarkably, the CMB is comprised almost entirely of non-music majors who represent nearly every major at the University. Student leadership is a revered tradition, with approximately 100 students filling various leadership roles in the CMB. Leadership opportunities include positions such as drum major, section leader, drill instructor, and various support staff roles. All members are issued professional-level instruments and equipment to be used throughout their tenure in the band.
The CMB has built a reputation for its highly energetic and crowd-pleasing performances. The band is proud to present a new, fully memorized halftime show at each home football game, providing students and fans the opportunity to experience many different musical styles and themes each fall.
The students of the Cavalier Marching Band enjoy the thrill and challenge of performing in front of large crowds, appearing on national television, and representing the University of Virginia. The members of the band proudly wear the orange and blue and are ambassadors for the University on and off the field. The Cavalier Marching Band is housed in the Hunter Smith Band Building 180 Culbreth Road.
