Event Planning & Implementation
Assists in the planning and implementation of, or on-site coordination at: member concerts, events in the community, receptions, student appearances, and other types of department-sponsored special events. Must be well organized, able to work independently and be detail oriented and enjoy interacting with the public. Event Usher
Be one of the friendly faces welcoming audiences to Music at UVA! Event Ushers help make concerts and events run smoothly by greeting patrons, scanning or collecting tickets, distributing programs, helping guests find their way, answering questions, and assisting with any unexpected needs. Ushers should be dependable, neatly presented, patient, friendly, and enjoy working with the public. Ushers fill out a Volunteer Application then sign-up to Usher on our Sign-Up Genius concert sign-ups
Music Department Representatives
Music Majors, Students, Faculty and Staff represent the UVA Music Department at Days on the Lawn, Summer Orientation, Fairs and events. While knowledge of the Music Department and our ensembles, classes, lessons and major is very helpful, the most important qualification for Music Department Representatives is a friendly and patient volunteer who enjoys interacting with students, prospective student and their families. Photographer
Photo volunteers play an important role in documenting the people and events that make up Music at UVA. Volunteers photograph concerts, lectures, special events, faculty, students, visiting scholars, and guest artists, then select their best images and upload a curated collection to an online gallery for the event contact to review and approve. Promotions
Help us spread the word about Music at UVA! Publicity volunteers work together to promote concerts, performances, lectures, and other Music Department events. Projects may include adding events to online calendars, proofreading publicity materials, distributing posters and flyers around Grounds, and helping with social media. Along the way, you’ll get to know other students and staff, learn how arts promotion works behind the scenes, and discover a lot more of what the Music Department has to offer. Flyering & Promotions Distribution
Distributes calendars, brochures and flyers throughout the Charlottesville area and surrounding communities. Enjoy exploring the rich Charlottesville area, while helping to publicize and promote events and activities in Old Cabell Hall. Flyers and promotions material will be distributed throughout local schools (including the University grounds), local shops and businesses, restaurants and a variety of other locations. Must have own transportation, enjoy interacting with the public, and be able to work independently. Contact the music volunteer coordinator for more information
Social Media
Work on social media campaigns and sites to help to publicize and promote events and activities for the UVA Music Department. Must be familiar with music and with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkIn), Able to work independently, enjoy music, social media and interacting with a diverse population. Our social media volunteers work with our social media manager at music-social@virginia.edu.
