Distinguished Major Recital: Billy Binion, Voice

binionBilly Binion, fourth year tenor, will present a free voice recital on March 3rd at 3:30 PM in Old Cabell Hall auditorium. The recital will be presented as a part of the McIntire Department of Music’s Distinguished Majors Program. The program will include pieces by Schumann, Rossini, Tchaikovsky, and Bizet, among others. Billy will present this recital after four years of study with James Taylor, and the program will also feature accompanist David Norfrey. Afterwards, there will be a reception in the lobby.

Billy is a member of University Singers, and has also performed with both the UVA Chamber Singers and Opera Viva. Roles performed include Nemorino in The Elixir of Love and Ralph Rackstraw in H.M.S. Pinafore. This past summer, he attended Harrower Opera Workshop, where he played Henrik in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music under the direction of Copeland Woodruff. He has also attended The American Singers’ Opera Project, where he sang the role of Tamino in The Magic Flute, and Operafestival di Roma in Rome, Italy.

This recital is supported by the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund. Established in 2004 by the generosity of Mr. Alan Y. Roberts ('64) and Mrs. Sally G. Roberts, the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund underwrites the private lessons and recital costs for undergraduate music majors giving a recital in their fourth year as part of a distinguished major program in music.
