Faculty Artist Series - .thrum
The University of Virginia Department of Music opens its Faculty Artist Series with a performance by .thrum, a dynamic new contemporary chamber music collective based in Charlottesville, on Sunday, September 20, at 3:30 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall.
Founded by University of Virginia faculty members Kelly Sulick (flute), Jiyeon Choi (clarinet), and John Mayhood (piano), .thrum is dedicated to shaping the future of chamber music through adventurous programming, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a commitment to commissioning and performing new works. Bringing together performers from the United States, South Korea, and Canada, the ensemble reflects a shared vision of artistic innovation, cultural exchange, and creative exploration.
As a catalyst for new musical voices, .thrum commissions and premieres works by both emerging and established composers, expanding the chamber music repertoire while creating meaningful connections between artists and audiences. The ensemble's inaugural season includes world premieres and performances throughout North America and Asia, establishing .thrum as an exciting new presence on the contemporary music scene.
