On Friday, March 31 a
t 8pm Michael McNulty will perform his distinguished major recital for guitar performance and composition in Old Cabell Hall. This event has free admission and the program features Michael's original compositions and arrangements for jazz small group, big band jazz ensemble, and rock band. This recital will feature the Michael McNulty All Star UVA Big Band, a big band jazz ensemble made of current and previous UVA Jazz Ensemble members and faculty, as well as Michael and the Misdemeanors, Michael's rock band, and vocalist Tina Hashemi.

This recital will feature the Michael McNulty All Star UVA Big Band, a big band jazz ensemble made of current and previous UVA Jazz Ensemble members and faculty, as well as Michael and the Misdemeanors, Michael's rock band, and vocalist Tina Hashemi.Michael McNulty is a 4th-year student at UVA from Greenwich, Connecticut. He will graduate this May with a BS in Physics and a BA in Music. Michael started playing guitar in fifth grade and studied with Chris Fox throughout middle and high school.
Michael has been a member of the UVA Jazz Ensemble since his first semester and has studied privately with Mike Rosensky and John D’earth at UVA. In his time as a student Michael has written 6 big band compositions as well as several pop songs and film scores.
Michael is the leader of the band Michael and the Misdemeanors and also frequently performs with his own jazz quartet. Both groups are warmly received in the Charlottesville music scene and gig regularly. The first set of this recital will feature Michael's jazz writing and the second set will feature Michael's original music with Michael and the Misdemeanors.
Michael has been a member of the Miller Arts Scholars program since his first year and is a recipient of two arts awards and several minigrants. Michael looks forward to continuing his music career after graduation.

Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA's historic lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda (map). Parking is available in the Central Grounds parking garage on Emmet Street, in the C1 parking lot off McCormick Road, and in the parking lots at the UVA Corner.
