Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh and Dan Trueman Colloquium

April 17, 2015 - 3:30pm
Open Grounds
Free
The Graduate Program at the University of Virginia's McIntire Department of Music invites the UVa and Charlottesville community to join us for a lecture by Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh and Dan Trueman on Friday April 17th at 3:30pm at Open Grounds on the UVa Corner.

Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh and Dan Trueman  will discuss their collaborative project Laghdú and their individual practices as fiddlers and composers. Laghdú, the title of their new CD of music for two Hardanger d’Amore fiddles, translates from the Irish as a lessening, a decrease, a reduction. The music they have written stretches and abstracts the DNA of Norwegian and Irish fiddling; the result is something new, sparse, ranging from the near-silent to the nigh-on orchestral, at times exploding joyously from their beautiful hybrid 10-string fiddles, at times barely there, holding time still.
"a seamless and unfettered soundscape ::: there's enough space and light here for influences as diverse as baroque to minimalism to breathe free ::: the work of musicians revelling in the moment: a rare find"  ★★★★★ THE IRISH TIMES

The duo will be performing with UVa Graduate Student Kevin Davis at the Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar at 9pm on April 17th.  Tickets can be purchased here: http://holdmyticket.com/event/201693
