Andrew O'Shanick - Distinguished Major Voice Recital

March 30, 2014 - 3:30pm
Old Cabell Hall
Free

The McIntire Department of Music presents Andrew O’Shanick, bass-baritone, in recital on Sunday, March 30th, 2014 at 3:30pm in Old Cabell Hall. The recital is free and open to the public and is presented as part of the Distinguished Majors Program. It will be followed by a reception in the lobby.

Andrew is a fourth year Music major and presents this recital as the culmination of his work with his teacher at the University of Virginia, Chris Owens. The program will include works by Schubert, Bellini, Rachmaninoff, and Ibert, as well as traditional American Spirituals, and it will be presented in collaboration with pianist Janna Ernst.

During his time at the University, Andrew has been involved with the University Singers, the Chamber Singers, Opera Viva, and the Hullabahoos. He has performed at baseball and basketball games, as well as on radio, television, and film. This past summer he participated in the Opera Studio of the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, where he worked with J. David Brock, Edward Bak, and Patricia Amato, among others. After graduation, Andrew will be pursuing a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance—ultimately pursuing a career in opera.

This recital is supported by the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund. Established in 2004 by the generosity of Mr. Alan Y. Roberts ('64) and Mrs. Sally G. Roberts, the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund underwrites the private lessons and recital costs for undergraduate music majors giving a recital in their fourth year as part of a distinguished major program in music.
