UVA Wind Ensemble directed by William PeaseThe University of Virginia McIntire Department of Music is pleased to announce the Fall Concert of the UVA Wind Ensemble on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 3:30pm in Old Cabell Hall. Directed by Dr. William Pease, the group will be performing the famous film scores of John Williams.  Highlights include the theme from Saving Private Ryan, Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Far and Away, and more.

The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. William Pease and assistant director Andrew Koch, features 45 of the most outstanding brass, woodwind, and percussion players at the University. Recent concerts have included works from the musical Les Miserables, performed with Broadway performer Ivan Rutherford, Erik Ewazen’s “Hymn to the Lost and the Living" (2002), Michael Mogensen’s “Aerial Fantasy” (2005), and Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Folk Festival” (1955) Focus is placed on exploring new literature as well as performing the masterworks of the wind band era.

The UVa Wind Ensemble will be sharing the stage with the Monticello High School Band directed by Ben Reed. Come and enjoy an afternoon of great music shared by one of the great public school bands in the area. The concert begins at 3:30 pm, Sunday, November 24. Ticket cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Doors open at 3pm.

As Director of Bands at the University of Virginia, Dr.Pease is the Director of the Cavalier Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Men's Basketball Band.

Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA's historic Lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda.  Parking is available in the Central Grounds Parking Garage, or in the lots off University Avenue at the University CornerHandicapped parking is available in the C1 parking lot or in designated spaces on McCormick Avenue.
