The Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra with the University Singers, present their fourth annual holiday concerts, a compilation of seasonal favorites with pieces for orchestra and chorus. The University Singers, UVA's premiere vocal group, will join the orchestra as will well-known jazz vocalist Stephanie Nakasian. Conductor Michael Slon will lead the concert. There are two performances on Saturday, December 6 at 8:00pm, and on Sunday, December 7 at 3:30pm.  The concerts are sponsored by Chase Investment Counsel Corporation.

Performing Let it Snow and The Christmas Waltz with the orchestra will be jazz vocalist Stephanie Nakasian. Nakasian is recognized by the Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz as one of the leading jazz singers in the world today with 5 CDs and numerous radio broadcasts for the internationally syndicated radio show Riverwalk. Her jazz style is compared to Ella Fitzgerald, June Christy and Rosemary Clooney and her improvisation workshops are popular with students from elementary school through professional levels. Her performances as a headliner include the Kennedy Center, Northsea Jazz Festival, JazzPartyatSea Cruise, NC Jazz Festival...and hundreds of school and club concerts.

The concert is expected to draw many students and families. The wide selection of festive and familiar music is very upbeat and audience-friendly. The groups will also perform over a dozen short works including Leroy Anderson's classic "Sleigh Ride," George Frideric Handel's moving "Hallelujah" chorus from the Messiah, and the festive "Twelve Days of Christmas." These concerts are sure to put anyone in a great mood for the holidays!
