The University of Virginia’s computer music festival TECHNOSONICS returns November 18-20 for three mind & ear expanding days of digital sound art composition. This year’s featured guest, Natasha Barrett (Norway/UK), will present a Colloquium at 3:30pm on Friday, November 19. Barrett’s work “Sansing i Strandsona” was one of the winning compositions from the 2021 Coastal Futures International Ecoacoustic Music Competition. This piece, along with other prize-winning works by Daniel Blinkhorn (Australia), Elsa Jaeyoung Park (Korea) and Christopher Jette (California) will be performed on Thursday November 18 at 8pm in Old Cabell Hall and streamed live to the world. This Thursday evening concert will also feature music by UVA composers Matthew Burtner and Judith Shatin.
On Friday night, November 19 at 8pm, downtown at the Bridge PAI get into the groove with MICE (Mobile Interactive Computer Ensemble), and experience new works from the Composition and Computer Technologies (CCT) doctors of noise, Varun Kishore, Becky Brown, Heather Mease and Alex Christie.
Finally, on Saturday November 20 at 3:30pm, outside The Bridge PAI, UVA’s New Music Ensemble directed by I-Jen Fang will close out the festival. The NME program will include three world premieres composed by the ensemble members, Bob DuCharme and Becky Brown. You will also experience pieces by Nomi Epstein, M. William Karlins, and Terry Riley.

All concerts will also be streamed out to the world on the Music Department YouTube channel so feel free to tune in from Alaska to Australia to India and points in between. Twenty festivals later and TECHNOSONICS is still shattering boundaries – this is one you won’t want to miss!

Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA's historic lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda. Parking is available in the central grounds parking garage on Emmet Street, in the C1 parking lot off McCormick Rd, and in the parking lots at the UVA Corner. Handicap parking is available in the small parking lot adjacent to Bryan Hall. Masks are required in Old Cabell Hall.
