The McIntire Department of Music is proud to present the University of Virginia Baroque Orchestra in concert on Sunday November 22 at 3:30 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall.

The Baroque Orchestra, directed by faculty violinist David Sariti, presents dynamic, vital performances of music from the 17th and 18th centuries on the instruments for which it was written, at Baroque pitch, without a conductor.  Students use period instruments from the University’s extensive collection, receiving personal instruction on the specific techniques, and learn performance conventions of the time that challenge our modern conceptions of music performance.

Violinist David Sariti is known for his fluency in performance that cuts across styles and eras, with a repertoire spanning from the seventeenth century to the present day.  Faculty at UVa since 2005, he directs the period-instrument Baroque Orchestra, maintains a violin studio, coaches chamber music, performs in the Rivanna Quartet, and is Principal Violin II of the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia.  He can be found playing jazz, on occasion, and was a featured soloist with the UVa Jazz Ensemble in 2015. Dr. Sariti also maintains an active presence on the Baroque violin. He has appeared with many notable chamber ensembles and orchestras, and in Fall 2015 will be joining The Vivaldi Project for a program of trio sonatas spanning 150 years. Along with members of the Baltimore Consort and Harmonious Blacksmith, he recently founded “Mr. Jefferson’s Music,” which was featured at the American Musical Instrument Society 2013 conference. In collaboration with Monticello, he has presented programs of music from the collection of Thomas Jefferson since 2006, and is featured on the CD “Music from the Jefferson Collection”.

UVa's period-instrument Baroque Orchestra, under the direction of faculty violinist David Sariti, presents a program of works by Rosenmuller, Purcell, Scarlatti, and Viadana.
