unheard of ensemble

The UVA Music Department presents a virtual colloquium with Unheard-of Ensemble on Friday, October 2, from 9–11 a.m.

Brooklyn-based Unheard-of Ensemble features Ford Fourqurean (clarinet), Matheus Souza (violin), Iva Casian-Lakoš (cello), and Daniel Anastasio (piano). The ensemble creates innovative new-music experiences that combine adventurous sound worlds, technology, multimedia, and audience interaction. Dedicated to expanding the possibilities of contemporary music, Unheard-of collaborates across artistic disciplines and engages audiences through performances, commissions, workshops, and community-based projects.

As the 2026–2027 Ensemble-in-Residence at the University of Virginia, Unheard-of Ensemble will work with the department’s ten PhD composers throughout the academic year, leading toward a February 2027 residency. Through this collaboration, the ensemble and composers will explore new approaches to music-making, technology, and interdisciplinary artistic practice.
