The repertoire is charming and the playing, on period instruments, is superb. - Strings Magazine
The Department of Music, supported by the Weber Endowment, is pleased to present The Vivaldi Project in "Classical Chamber Music Reimagined", a program of late 18th-century duos, trios, and quartets that challenges modern notions of tradition in repertoire and performance. Works by Madalena Sirmen, Joseph Boulogne Chevalier de St. George, Felice Giardini, Franz Joseph Haydn, Luigi Boccherini, and others are performed using period instruments and performance practices. Violinist Elizabeth Field, violist Allison Nyquist, and cellist Stephanie Vial are joined by faculty violinist David Sariti. Praised for its brilliant and expressive playing, The Vivaldi Project presents innovative programs of Baroque and Classical string repertoire that combine scholarship and performance to both educate and delight audiences.
"The group’s exquisite sense of ensemble, vibrant sound, and ardent cantabile represented period instrument playing at its best." (Fanfare Magazine)
The period instrument ensemble takes its name from the virtuoso violinist and innovative composer Antonio Vivaldi in recognition of his pivotal position between earlier Baroque and later Classical composers. The Vivaldi Project's recording series, Discovering the Classical String Trio (MSR Records), continues to receive critical claim. Volume 4, released in early April 2024, was spotlighted by WETA with a week long premiere broadcast, video reels, and interviews .Learn More
