Wind Ensemble presents "Come Dance With Me"

Wind EnsembleThe University of Virginia McIntire Department of Music is pleased to announce the Fall Concert of the UVA Wind Ensemble on Sunday October 30, 2011 at 3:30pm in Old Cabell Hall.

The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. William Pease and assistant directors Andrew Koch and Michael Idzior, features 45 of the most talented musicians from every school at the University.The ensemble will perform selections from Armenian Dances, Pineapple Poll, Suite of Old American Dances, and more, including an Oboe Concerto, featuring fourth year oboe player, James Bour. The Wind Ensemble will be joined by the Grafton High School Concert Band, a Virginia State Honor Band from Yorktown, Virginia.

Grafton High School’s band program started up in 1996, the year of the school’s founding, with a total of 96 members in its first year, including the Concert Band and Marching Band. Since then, the band has grown to over 240 musicians in multiple ensembles, leading to the development of a new band room to accommodate the growth. The concert band consistently earns Superior ratings at festivals, and has been named a Virginia State Honor Band five times. Mr. Darren Kirsch has been the Director of Bands since the school’s opening in 1996, and also works with VMEA and VBODA.

Tickets for the Wind Ensemble Concert at 3:30pm on Sunday, October 30 are $10 for the General Public, $5 for Students, and free for UVA Students who reserve at least 24 hours in advance.
