Andrea Gutierrez
Andrea is a Colombian-American composer and flutist from Fairfield, California. As a composer, she enjoys experimenting with found sounds and whimsical sonic textures through electroacoustic/ electronic mediums. She is interested in creating immersive soundscapes often in combination with various visual arts media, incorporating elements of Latin American folk music (such as Cumbia and Llanero) in contemporary electronic spaces, and has become more and more interested in the process of sonic translation of environmental and mental health data into unique sound worlds in hopes to connect listeners to important topics and stories in an aurally (and visually) captivating way. As a performer, she frequently collaborated with chamber groups and choirs in the San Francisco Bay Area and has been featured as a soloist and premiered works in the Silicon Valley Music Festival.
Andrea received her AA in flute performance at Napa Valley College under Jennifer Hunt and her BM in composition at San Jose State University studying with Dr. Christopher Luna-Mega and flutist Ray Furuta.
