Schuyler Jackson: Bassoon Recital
The University of Virginia Department of Music presents a bassoon recital by Schuyler Jackson on Friday, January 30th at 7:30pm in Old Cabell Hall. Mr. Jackson will be performing an eclectic variety of works by Francisco Mignone (1897-1986), Robert Schumann (1810-1856), Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013), Ferenc Farkas (1905-2000) and Peter Schickele (1935-2024), with accompaniments by UVA faculty members Elizabeth Roberts, bassoon, and John Mayhood, piano.
This event is supported by the Eleanor Shea Music Trust and is free and open to the public.

"Bassoonist Schuyler Jackson is based in Baltimore, Maryland, where he is Assistant Principal Bassoon of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra....A multifaceted musician, Schuler has performed in the principal bassoon chair for the Minnesota Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and Bach in Baltimore. Schuyler as appeared with numerous other orchestras throughout the United States, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Washington National Opera and Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra...
An avid chamber musician, Schuyler is passionate about getting out into the community to perform new and lesser-known chamber music works with his colleagues. He has performed chamber music at public and private schools in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Enoch Pratt Free Library, Baltimore County Public Library, Austin Minnesota Public Library, Cylburn Arboretum, Baltimore VA Medical Center, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore Penn-Station, American Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, for the Baltimore Symphony Musicians Subway Series at the Charles Center Metro Subway Station, and in a trio representing the Baltimore Symphony in collaboration with University of Maryland and Sound Impact for the Voices of Prince George's County program at Bowie Branch Library in Maryland. Additionally, Schuyler is a frequent performer on the Community Concerts at Second Chamber Music by Candlelight series in Baltimore, where he has collaborated with colleagues to perform the works of André Jolivet, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Clara Schumann, Justinian Tamusuza, André Previn, Valerie Coleman, Ludwig van Beethoven, Francis Poulenc, Joseph Canteloube, Heinrich Molbe, and others."
