The University of Virginia Department of Music presents the fourth concert in the UVA Chamber Music Series on Sunday, February 22nd, at 3:30pm in Old Cabell Hall.  The concert features cellist Adam Carter with Jeannette Jang, violin, and Jeremy Thompson, piano.

Cellist Adam Carter maintains an active career as a recitalist, chamber and orchestral musician, and teacher. Recent engagements include recitals and chamber music performances at UNC-Chapel Hill, Wake Forest University, the University of Virginia, Randolph College, Bridgewater College and Hampden-Sydney College.

Dr. Carter is currently the principal cellist of the Charlottesville Symphony and has performed with the Richmond Symphony, Madison Symphony, Winston-Salem Symphony, Erie Philharmonic, and Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra.

Violinist Jeannette Jang

Violinist Jeannette Jang joined the Richmond Symphony in the fall of 2012, and was appointed Associate Principal Second Violin in the fall of 2024; prior to her move to Virginia, she was a Fellow with New World Symphony in Miami Beach, FL. She served as concertmaster under such conductors as Michael Tilson Thomas, Leonard Slatkin, David Robertson and James Conlon, and she soloed with the orchestra as a winner of their concerto showcase.

Pianist Jeremy Thompson maintains an active performance schedule as a recitalist and concerto soloist with orchestras around the world. Maintaining a wide range of repertoire, Thompson specializes in highly virtuosic repertoire. In the United States, he has performed in the concerto setting to critical acclaim with the Charlottesville Symphony, North Carolina Symphony and Western Piedmont Symphony. In Canada, he has appeared with the Montréal Chamber Orchestra, Symphony New Brunswick, and McGill Symphony Orchestra, and in Europe with the Saint Petersburg State Academic Orchestra, Saratov Philharmonic Orchestra, and Georgian National Orchestra. An active recitalist, he performs extensively, including a Debut Atlantic tour of Eastern Canada and three trips to Russia. Jeremy Thompson, pianist

is also in high demand as a collaborative pianist. Born in Dipper Harbour, a small fishing village in New Brunswick, Canada, Thompson has a personal interest in championing the works of Canada’s major composers, including Brian Cherney, Jose Evangelista, and Jean Papineau-Couture. He recently released a recording of piano music by Quebec-based composers on the McGill label. Thompson studied at McGill University in Montreal, working with Marina Mdivani, a former student of Emil Gilels. He was honored with two of Canada’s most prestigious fellowships to pursue his doctoral studies, and in 2005 earned a Doctorate of Music in Piano Performance. He studied organ performance at McGill with Dr. John Grew and is also a concertizing organist and the Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The UVA Chamber Music Series presents innovative performances by the University of Virginia's world-class performance faculty and celebrated guest artists and is comprised of six professional performances for the university and the central Virginia community. These intimate concerts are programmed to offer both new and traditional works that will delight the novice as well as the well-tempered critic. Individual Tickets: $15 General / $13 UVA Faculty & Staff / $5 Students / Free for UVA Students who reserve in advance / Free for students under 18. Tickets are available at the UVA Arts Box Office by calling 434.924.3376, or by visiting artsboxoffice.virginia.edu. Individual tickets will also be available at the door one hour prior to the concert.  UVA students need to reserve their tickets 24 hours in advance at the UVA Arts Box Office student ticket portal

Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA's historic lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda. Parking is available in the central grounds parking garage on Emmet Street, in the C1 parking lot off McCormick Rd, and in the parking lots at the UVA Corner. Handicap parking is available in the small parking lot adjacent to Bryan Hall.
