UVA Baroque Orchestra: Spring 2027
UVA Baroque Orchestra Presents Spring Concert
Journey into the vibrant sound world of the Baroque as the University of Virginia Baroque Orchestra presents its spring concert on Sunday, April 18, 2027, at 3:30 p.m. in Old Cabell Hall.
Directed by faculty violinist David Sariti, the UVA Baroque Orchestra is dedicated to historically informed performance, bringing seventeenth- and eighteenth-century masterpieces to life using period instruments and the performance practices for which they were originally written. Drawing from the University's exceptional collection of historical instruments, the ensemble performs at Baroque pitch, revealing the warmth, clarity, and expressive nuance that define this remarkable repertoire.
Performing without a conductor, the musicians rely on careful listening, shared leadership, and close musical collaboration to shape every phrase. This chamber music approach creates performances of remarkable vitality while giving students an immersive experience in the artistry and traditions of early music.
The spring concert celebrates the ensemble's work throughout the academic year, showcasing the musicianship and stylistic insight developed through intensive study, rehearsal, and collaboration. Audiences can look forward to an engaging afternoon of music that reflects both the elegance and dramatic vitality of the Baroque era.
Each year, the Baroque Orchestra also benefits from collaborations with distinguished Weber Endowment guest artists, whose residencies provide students with masterclasses and performances by internationally recognized specialists in early music. Recent guests have included the Grammy Award-winning ensemble Quicksilver, Rebel Baroque, fortepianist David Breitman, and The Vivaldi Project.
